Who can enroll?

For the 2025–2026 school year, we offer a Grades 3–5 microschool, plan to expand to Grades K–8 in 2026–2027, and currently provide tutoring for Grades K–8.

How is learning delivered and what is the daily structure?

Online through Zoom. Students attend one of two cohorts, an AM or PM, with 3 hours of live Zoom instruction daily.

Math: 9:15-10:00 / 2:45-1:30

Snack/Brain Break: 10:00-10:20 / 1:30-1:50

ELA/Writing: 10:20-11:20 / 1:50-2:50

Wrap Up: 11:55-12:00 / 3:25-3:30

Recommended Technology Requirement

Yes, we align instruction to Common Core State Standards (ELA and Math), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and state and national Social Studies frameworks.

Yes, Big Domes Academy is an online microschool that operates as a home education program rather than a traditional public or private school.

Do you follow state standards?

Students must use a laptop or desktop computer with a keyboard, webcam, microphone, and reliable internet. Tablets and phones are not supported. Headphones are strongly recommended to reduce distractions. Google Chrome browser is highly recommended.

How are assessments handled?

We use weekly formative assessments to guide instruction and end-of-unit summative projects and presentations to demonstrate mastery.

What are class sizes?

Class sizes are capped at 8 students to ensure highly individualized support.

Are you an accredited school?

At this time, Big Domes Academy is not an accredited school. We currently operate as a Home Education Program, providing structured, standards-aligned instruction. We plan to file for accreditation later this year and will share updates as that process moves forward.

Why do we require a Computer?

Our program involves frequent writing, reading, research, and interactive lessons. A full computer ensures students can participate fully and build essential academic and digital skills.

What are the tutoring hours and who is the instructor?

Tutoring is available Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM–10:00 PM (EST), with flexible weekend availability upon request. Session times are scheduled based on student needs and instructor availability.

What are the calendar dates for the 2026 school year?

January 15: End of second grading period; first semester

January 19: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday; holiday for students

January 20: Beginning of the third grading period; second semester

February 16: Presidents’ Day; a holiday for students

March 23-27: Spring recess for students and employees

April 2: End of third grading period; second semester

April 6: Beginning of fourth grading period; second semester

May 25: Memorial Day; holiday for students

June 5: Last day of school; end fourth grading period; second semester
